Art is necessary to society. The diversification of artistic actions and their integration into the fields of education and leisure, together with the development of the cultural industries, prove that the arts - all of the arts- have become a true social activity. But that is not what really matters. For while art cannot replace plitics, it does have the ability to formulate utopias, to challenge dominant tendencies and to reject intellectual passivity. And if it ruffles a few feathers along the way, so much the better...
